JOE IURATO “EVERYTHING BUT THE WHOLE STORY”

This past week Station 16 Gallery in Montreal opened Everything but the Whole Story, a solo show featuring Joe Iurato. Based on photography, JoeIurato creates site-specific wooden cut-outs that reflect upon his personal experiences. The tiny black and white figures interact with their environment in often extravagant manners, from scaling a skyscraper, to dangling from a bridge, to breakdancing in the streets of New York.

Joe incorporates a unique process into his cut outs that blend vintage and contemporary techniques: “I use layers of hand cut paper and spray paint to create texture and form – a modern adaptation of an old-fashioned printing process. My art is nothing more than the exploration and documentation of personal experiences.” As a street and commercial artist, Joe has worked with ESPN, Adidas, Nike, Sprite, Nickelodeon, as well as others.
